Listening #1: On Education and Creativity (due Thursday)

  2. The main idea is about how schools kill creativity. Although people have different types of intelligence, why we expect children to be successful on math in our schools? His examples about the topic are perfect, I love them, especially the one about Shakespeare.

    Actually, I think about this topic like the same way. Although I'm an engineer, I feel like that I didn't choose this major and at the same time nobody told me that I should be an engineer. Our educational system canalized me to be an engineer, because I am good at math and physic. I think I could have been interested in engineering and art. But they don't give us a chance to try both of them.

    Finally, It is not about the topic but I have a question. First, the lecture about Bloom's Taxonomy of Learning and now this TED Talk were really hard to understand for me. Are they level 5? Because, If they are; it means I have some problems with my listening skill and I don't know how to improve it or I don't have a method to improve it.

    1. I think that Robinson is a little difficult to understand because of his accent and because of his dry humor. However, it's clear that you understood the gist (main idea) of his talk, so don't worry about your level.

      Regarding the taxonomy lecture, you were able to understand the main concepts, even if you didn't understand every word. The listening will get easier as we go forward in the class.

  3. It's an interesting lecture, I have already heard something like that but without really having paid a complete attention.

    This lecture is about our education system which do not provide/offer correctly enough "freedom" to children so that they can explore/find out their capacity and their talent.

    All educational systems are nearly similar. The link they have is strong and that's the way they make the competence hierarchy, for example science course (math, etc) comparing to sport (dance, etc).

    Nowadays, for example, it a significant issues for a student to know what does he want to do in his life, what kind of studies etc... It probably one of the consequence of our educational system in general, in my opinion.

  4. The main idea is that the creativity is important in education.
    I think he is right that we have in school that some supjects are more important than other.
    So as my freind Ayberk said that most students will be engineers.

  5. I think the main idea is the creativity of children in education. The speaker gives many examples to illustrate, and one of them is the little girl who is drawing God.
    In my opinion, it's necessary to encourage the children to create every thing by their imagine. Because in the future, they may invent some useful things that support for our better life.

  6. I am agree with Robinson's Speeches because by the time we have grown up, the adult are afraid to take risk and have stigmas. In other to talk about the education, which is hierarchical sistem, this is pushing the children who have capacity and creativity to joint the whole system without taking a chane to follow their goal.

    Consequently, today we have adults who have been building by the ordinary system education but their capacity and motivation had killed.

    As math as Arts and Dances, have the same level of importance.

    We should not leave that the system kills the brilliants intelligence and creativity which gave original ideas to get a better world.

  7. The main idea is talking about how the educational system destroy the creativity of students. He gives many examples and I really interested in the one talking about the girl who became a famous dancer.
    I think the educational system should be changed to give students more chances to become who they want.

  8. According to Robison in his speech, the creativity is important in education in the same way like math and others subjects are. The problem is that today teachers don't care about creativity. For them, being successful in math are more important because the society said that. Because the creativity are not developed in humans, the human being have been disappearing. For developing creativity is important arts.

    I totally agree with Robison because we don't only learn with our brain, we learn with our body too. Actually, in our education system children are pushing to do sometimes what they don't want to do because the system required that they have to be successful only in what they considered what is important. This traditional system put people out of they creativity capacities, and sometimes it developed depression in children, or children finish unhappy because they are doing what they don't want to do.

    In addition, i think that arts help children to develop their personalities and preference. Also, its proof that arts help children with medical problems like learning disabilities, also, arts motivated children to being successful in what they are doing. So, i believe that arts have to be more developed to help children to being successful in their live.

  9. Although the professor talks too fast, I can guess the main point is about the creativity in education nowadays.

    He says something about educational systems do not have opportunities to help students grow their creativities. For example, the girl who likes dancing is one of the situation that she has to listen to the adults although she has a talent for dancing.

    I think education now needs a innovation. They can apply some subjects about Art, Music or Dancing as one of main subjects besides Math or Physics so that students can choose what they want to study to make their careers in the future.
