We've spent the past few weeks reading about and listening to the causes of obesity in children.
Some of the culprits are:
1. Genetics ("Fat Chance")
2. The fast food industry, with McDonald's at the forefront ("Supersize Me")
3. The beverage industry ("Bottlers Agree to a School Ban on Sweet Drinks")
4. The advertising agency ("Ban on Fast-Food TV Ads May Cut Obesity")
5.
The schools, for not educating the children about nutrition and for not
providing physical exercise time and equipment ("Supersize Me")
6. The parents
7. The children
8. Other possibilities (video games/when we eat/where we eat/how much we eat...)
Having
considered all of the information, who do you think is responsible for
our children's obesity epidemic? Use evidence from the above
sources--and others, if you have them--to explain, support, and argue
your point of view.
You can start your composition as follows:
Although its difficult to
single out just one specific cause for the obesity epidemic in America, I
believe that the major cause of the problem is ___________.
A composition is not an essay. You can write 1-2 long paragraphs to answer the question.
Although its difficult to single out just one specific cause for the obesity epidemic in America, I believe that the major cause of the problem is the fast food industry because of these following reasons. Firstly, this industry knows the demands of those who do not have enough time to cook and eat fast food instead. Therefore, this company will add new flavors, more choices, more combos. The customers, especially children, will be curious with new products, and they will try.
ReplyDeleteIn addition, this industry will invest in advertisement, they will show the attractive pictures of food that wake the viewers' appetite, and interesting discount, for example buy 1 get 1 free on Monday. So, people will only think this food at that time and want to get it.
Although its difficult to single out just one specific cause for the obesity epidemic in America, I believe that the major cause of problem is the schools. Nowadays, most of the schools in America sell soda drinks to students in the vending machines or the store. These drinks are extremely bad for students health because of too much chemical sugar in these. Besides, the restaurants in schools sells too much fast food to students. Many students think that fast food are more tasty and convenient than other healthy food, so they are likely to eat the fast food more. From my point of view, if all the food the schools provide for students are healthy, the number of obese children will decrease.
ReplyDeleteAlthough its difficult to single out just one specific cause for the obesity epidemic in America, I believe that the major cause of the problem is the parents. Parents must know what's good and what's bad for their children. They shouldn't allow them to eat fast food because it is bad for their health. Of course, parents don't have bad intentions but the problem is that they lack knowledge to stop obesity.
ReplyDeleteParents should be aware of what their children eat. And they should also tell them how bad it is to eat fast food and the consequences that will happen to them. However, parents should force their children to eat healthy food. in my opinion, the children's health is the parents responsibility.
Although its difficult to single out just one specific cause for the obesity epidemic in America, I believe that the major cause of problem is school. Children learn a lot of their habits in the school and eat fast and junk food one of them. It's school's responsibility to learn children what to eat and what is good for their health. If the schools serve fast and junk food, the students will use to eat it every time even after school. So, it's school responsibility teach the students what to eat by serve them healthy food in the school.
ReplyDeleteAlthough it's difficult to single out just one specific cause for the obesity epidemic in America, I believe that the major cause of problem are the parents. One of the major parents roles is to make choices which they think to be better for their children. Just ask yourself some questions like "who choose school for children", "who feed children at home", "who choose restaurant" etc I can fill several lines of these kinds of questions and I'm pretty sure that you do too. Children are very often the reflect of their parents. It means the way parents educate children.
ReplyDeleteAlthough its difficult to single out just one specific cause for the obesity epidemic in America, I believe that the major cause of the problem is parents. It is the parents' responsibility to take care of their children and provide them with healthier food. Also, parents should eat healthy food, because children will get used to do what their parents are doing. Furthermore, the other causes of obesity as they said, such as fast food industries, the government, etc... are responsible about their own goal whether it is high sales or reputation. In addition, if the fast food industries noticed that all people are taking it serious about providing healthy food for their children, they will make sure to produce healthy food to make good business.
ReplyDeleteApparently, it is hard to find only one main cause that leads to child obesity epidemic in America. As far as I am concerned, there are two main causes of child obesity. Firstly, the parents, as legal gardians and children's first teachers, they have resposibility to guide their kids in various area. such as healthy eating pattern, time for eating, types of food for choosing. Furthermore, since children have no awareness of healthy food, parents should help them to choose healthier food than taste good one. Second, the advertiment company should take responsibility of child obesity. For example, the tobacco commerical was banned in 1965, becaus several reasarches showed that advertisement of tobacco products had strong impaction in encourging people to consume tobacco products. Meanwhile the advertiments of fast food significantly contribute in promoting their unhealthy food.
ReplyDeleteTake all factors into consideration, I believe that parents and commercial companies are two major causes in child obesity in America.
Although it’s difficult to single out just one specific cause for the obesity epidemic in America, I believe that the major cause of the problem are the parents. That is because the children cannot become obese by their own without any impact. First of all, the parents are the first ones who teach their children unhealthy eating habit, typically eating fast food. For example, they are busy all day with their work and they cannot spend time on cooking at home. Therefore, whole family members go to Mc Donald to eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner. As a result, many children have grown up along with fast food restaurant. Moreover, they cannot remember the name of the first President of the US, but they are easy to recognize the Ronald McDonald clown.
ReplyDeleteOn the other hand, I think the fast food restaurants are also responsible for the obesity epidemic in America. There are a lot of fast food restaurants in America, and the figure continue increasing every year. If they didn’t appear so many like that, I believe there won’t be many people become obese. Indeed, the majority of Vietnamese are slim because there are fewer fast food restaurants in Vietnam than in America. Moreover, the price is quite high. Therefore, they usually cook at home or just eat fast food about 1-2 times a month. In addition, there are no any soft drink machines in primary schools, secondary schools and high schools.
Although it is difficult to single out just one specific cause for the obesity epidemic in America, I believe that the major cause of the problem is the schools. They know that fast foods and soft drinks are extremely unhealthy; however they still allow the fast food restaurants to sell in the schools without regulations. Sometimes, the fast food restaurants can donate money to the schools if they are allowed to sell. Therefore, the schools will have more funds to develop. Nevertheless, the schools have to find methods to control the amount of fast foods students should eat. The major purpose of the schools is teaching students do the right things. They have to help students realize that fast foods and soft drinks are not healthy, so they can control by themselves. Besides that, the schools should provide physical exercise time and equipment to help students loose their weight and improve their health.
ReplyDeleteMoreover, parents also take the responsibility for the obesity in children. I understand that they don't have time to cook at home. They can get fast foods for their children but they have to teach them about nutrition and the consequences of eating a lot of fast foods everyday. Therefore, their children will eat at the moderate amount of fast foods at the schools.
Although it is difficult to single out just one specific cause for the obesity epidemic in America, I believe that the major cause of the problem is the schools.
ReplyDeleteStudents spend most of their time in schools, so the school must have responsibility to educate them about what is good for their health. It should be a part of lessons at school. Besides that, schools provide lunch for students so if there are too much fast food in lunch; it will be a one part of causes that makes children obese. Therefore, the schools need to give healthy meals to students to make sure they get enough calories and nutrients for studying.
In addition, the schools need to reduce to sell unhealthy food, such as soda, chips or pizza and increase the number of healthy food, such as fruits, smoothies or juices. I believe it will help to decrease the percentage of obese children.
Although its difficult to single out just one specific cause for the obesity epidemic in America, I believe that the major cause of problem is the fast food restaurants. Fast food restaurants are in everywhere and the prices are assessable, from poor people to the richest. In addition of advertising, fast food are taking advantages of this sad situation which is the obesity in America, In other to decrease this problem, family should teach their children, even since the sons are tenagers, that fast food is not healthier at all, and the children should
ReplyDeleteAlthough it's difficult to Single out just One specific cause for the obesity epidemic in America , i believe that the major cause Are parents. Because parents have the possibility to control What Their kids eat . generally, children tend to eat What Their parents eat . Parents must themselves eat healthy food if they want their kids to feel confidence about their appearance. When for example , parents don't have time to cook , because of their occupations , it easy for the family to get food from outside .(fast food etc....) And this One might damage Their health . So , parents must eliminate all sweets and favorite snacks from kid's diet .Parents should advice their kids to exercise regulary and try to eat serving of fruits . By this fact , kids or children will have a good lifestyle . It's better to teach them , when they are younger. Thank you 😋😋
ReplyDeleteAlthough its difficult to single out just one specific cause for the obesity epidemic in America, I believe that the major cause of the problem is parents. Although fasfood markets are widespread all over the world these days, most of the time children do what they learned from their parents. And also, studies show us, if parents do exercise, children tend to do exercise their future life. That's why, I believe that, if parents give their children healty eating habits and even if children encounter fastfood markets everywhere, they will not be under obesity risk.
ReplyDeleteAlthough its difficult to single out just one specific cause for the obesity epidemic in America, i believe that the major cause of the obesity is a mix between parents and schools. first, parents are the role model for their children so, what their parents want or do, children will want the say. The parents' responsibility its control what their children eat and make them do exercise. Nowadays, parents do not have time to cook at home so, the easy way to bring food to their children is buying fast food. if children eat everyday fast food, they will get the habit if eat only fast food. Also, because parents dont have time, they dont care about what their children do during the day, so, most of the children today, don't do exercise. In addition, the schools do not offer healthy food to their students, and they spend long time at schools. Also, even if the schools offer to their students healthy food, children will prefer fast food because they usually eat those at home. Im completely sure that if parents and teachers teach that healthy food and do exercise are the best way to being healthy and strong to their children, the number of obesity will decrease considerately.
